Photoshop Tutorial #1: Fake Lashes

Hello there,

I hope your Christmas and New Year's were lovely. With the exception of those two days I have been sequestered in my apartment. You're probably thinking I have a mild case of Seasonal Depression Disorder, right? Wrong. I actually have a severe case of Photoshop awesomeness.

The two websites that have taught me the most are Pugly Pixel, which makes the most divine brushes and easy to follow, kitschy designs and You Suck at Photoshop, which is so funny that you will want to watch the tutorials even if you have no interest in design.

This tutorial will show you how to add realistic looking fake eyelashes to your picture, like the ones above. The first thing you will need to do is go to Brushnet and download this set of four eyelash brushes for free. Once you have it, you'll need to install the brush in Photoshop.  On a mac, simply click Finder->Applications->Photoshop->Brushes and drag the .abr file into the Brushes folder. Voila!

Now open Photoshop and open the picture you want to enhance. Now you'll want to create four new layers for the left and right top and bottom lashes. Click on your brush tool and go to the top left hand corner and click on the brush icon. Choose the eyelash set that is best for you and change the size to be roughly the size of your real lashes. It doesn't have to be perfect.

Make sure you are working in layer one, which you should relabel TRlash (top right lash). Click near your eye and now you can make it perfect by clicking ⌘T (Free Transform) and holding down the shift key (This will keep the lash's dimentions the same) while you turn and resize it to make it perfect. Don't forget to hit the return key when you're finished.

Now, click on layer two, and click your brush tool for your left eyelash. Because the lash set is only made for the right eye, you'll have to go to Edit->Transform->Flip Horizontal so it will fit your left eye. repeat the sets above using ⌘T and shift until you have it placed perfectly.

Repeat the same steps for the lower lashes and you will end up looking divine, without having to have any real photoshop skills that take years of practice to hone. If only they had Photoshop for my real eyelashes, sigh.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and if you have any questions, want me to clear up any of the steps, or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks for reading, you made my day!
